Finding the Right Contractor

This topic is probably one of the hardest for anyone who is looking for a contractor, how do you know they are the right one? Well, it really isn't that hard if you follow these tips before deciding on one. My first tip is to look and talk to three different contractors. And no, this is not to look at price difference. Yes, that is important, but I say look at three different contractors because its just like looking at cars. Yes, one may seem great because the price is good, it looks great but when you drive it, it just doesn't fit you or your daily needs. You have to be able to have a good relationship with your contractor before you start having them do work on one of your most important investments. Do some research and talk to a few and see which is the right fit.

Next tip is to ask for recommendations. Talk to friends and family to see if they have some contractors in mind. This is really important because referrals are a good sign that the contractor was good to them and they will use them again for future jobs.

Don't look at the cost! I know it is tempting to see a low bid and want to move forward with that contractor but if the bid is outrageously low and you think you are getting a great deal, your not! Its either that they are cutting corners or they are desperate for work which is definitely not good because that means no one has hired them. DON'T FALL INTO THE TRAP! Price is important but not as important as the work you want done to your home. You don't want to end up with a project that wasn't done correctly.

The biggest tip of all is to really trust your choice in your contractor. If you follow these tips than you know you made the right choice in a contractor. Unless there is something your contractor is doing that is seriously wrong than yes, by all means think again, but if it is just because you have a feeling that you made the wrong choice than you are overthinking it.
